Can levothyroxine be refilled through telehealth?
Established thyroid replacement therapy may be appropriate for telehealth refill evaluation when the clinician has enough information to assess continued treatment safely.
What information may be needed?
- Current levothyroxine or Synthroid dose
- Recent TSH and, when relevant, free T4 results
- Recent dose changes
- Pregnancy status when relevant
- Symptoms suggesting over- or under-treatment
- Other medications or supplements that may affect absorption
When might additional evaluation be needed?
Pregnancy, significant new symptoms, major dose changes, markedly abnormal thyroid testing, or uncertainty about the diagnosis may require more than a routine refill.
