Can hydrochlorothiazide be refilled through telehealth?
For an established patient on a stable dose, hydrochlorothiazide may be appropriate for telehealth refill evaluation. Recent blood-pressure readings and electrolyte and kidney labs are often helpful.
What information may be needed?
- Current dose, and whether HCTZ is combined with another medication in one pill
- Recent blood-pressure readings
- Recent sodium, potassium, and kidney function labs, if available
- Symptoms such as dizziness, muscle cramps, weakness, or gout flares
- Other blood pressure medications and recent changes
When is routine refill care not enough?
Fainting, confusion, severe weakness, or severely elevated blood pressure with chest pain or stroke symptoms requires immediate medical evaluation.
