Can metoprolol be refilled through telehealth?
For an established patient on a stable dose, metoprolol may be appropriate for telehealth refill evaluation. Because stopping a beta blocker suddenly can be risky for some heart conditions, it’s worth requesting a refill before you run out.
What information may be needed?
- Which form you take (tartrate or succinate ER) and your dose
- Recent blood-pressure and pulse readings
- Why it was prescribed (blood pressure, heart rhythm, heart failure, after a heart attack)
- Symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, very slow heartbeat, or shortness of breath
- Your cardiologist’s information, if you have one
When is routine refill care not enough?
Chest pain, fainting, a very slow heartbeat with symptoms, or new shortness of breath requires immediate medical evaluation. Some heart conditions need in-person or specialist follow-up rather than a refill review.
