⚡ Most completed refill requests receive clinician review within minutes during business hours. Some requests may require additional information, video evaluation, records, testing, or in-person follow-up and may take longer. Prescriptions are issued only when medically appropriate and are not guaranteed.

New to Texas, here for school, work, or the winter, or visiting family? Most routine prescriptions can move to a Texas pharmacy. If your refills have run out and your home-state prescriber can’t renew in time, MedRefillCare can review a bridge refill online.

You must be physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. Adults 18+. Prescriptions are not guaranteed and are issued only when medically appropriate. Not for controlled medications.

Three steps to keep your medication going

1. Transfer what you have

Choose a Texas pharmacy and give them your old pharmacy’s name and phone number, the medication name, and the Rx number from your bottle. For most non-controlled medications, they can pull your remaining refills over.

2. Out of refills? Ask for a renewal

Your Texas pharmacy can request a renewal from your home-state prescriber. Many renew without a visit, so this is often the fastest route.

3. Prescriber can’t renew in time?

Start a MedRefillCare refill review. A Texas-licensed clinician reviews your history and, if appropriate, sends a bridge prescription to the Texas pharmacy you choose.

Usually a good fit

  • Established blood pressure, cholesterol, thyroid, diabetes, acid reflux, or asthma inhaler medications
  • Established, stable FDA-approved GLP-1 therapy
  • You recently moved to Texas and don’t have a local doctor yet
  • You are in Texas for school, a work assignment, an extended stay, or a visit

Not sure? Use the eligibility checker before you pay.

Have these ready

  • Photo of your bottle or label (shows the Rx number and prescriber)
  • Medication name, dose, and how you take it
  • Your old pharmacy and prescriber contact information
  • Recent readings or labs if relevant (blood pressure, A1c, thyroid)
  • The Texas pharmacy you want to use

Can’t get a new-patient appointment yet?

Many people who move to Texas find that the first available new-patient visit is weeks or months away, while their old prescriber is in another state and their refills are running out. A MedRefillCare review can bridge that gap for an eligible established, non-controlled medication while you get settled and establish local primary care.

If you’d like ongoing primary care, in-person visits are also available by appointment at our Fairview, Texas office.

Controlled medications follow different rules

ADHD stimulants, opioids, benzodiazepines, many sleep medications, testosterone, and other controlled substances have stricter transfer and prescribing rules, and MedRefillCare does not prescribe them. Ask your Texas pharmacist what is possible for your specific prescription, and plan early to establish care with a Texas prescriber who manages that medication.

Running out today? In some situations a Texas pharmacist may be able to provide a short emergency supply of a non-controlled medication. Ask your pharmacist. For severe symptoms, call 911.

Frequently asked questions

I just moved to Texas and can't see a new doctor for weeks. What can I do?

If your medication is established and non-controlled, you can start a MedRefillCare refill review while you wait. A Texas-licensed clinician evaluates whether a bridge prescription is medically appropriate. It does not replace establishing ongoing local care.

Can a Texas pharmacy fill a prescription written by my out-of-state doctor?

For most non-controlled medications, yes. Texas pharmacists may fill non-controlled prescriptions from prescribers licensed in another U.S. state the same way they fill Texas prescriptions, as long as the prescription is valid. Your new pharmacy can usually transfer remaining refills from your old pharmacy.

What if I have no refills left?

Ask your Texas pharmacy to request a renewal from your home-state prescriber. If that prescriber is unavailable, requires an office visit you cannot make, or is not responding, you can start a MedRefillCare refill review. A Texas-licensed clinician evaluates whether a bridge prescription is medically appropriate.

Can I use MedRefillCare before I arrive in Texas?

No. You must be physically located in Texas at the time of the evaluation. If you are still in another state, contact your current prescriber or a clinician licensed in the state where you are.

Do you handle controlled medications such as ADHD stimulants, opioids, benzodiazepines, sleep medications, or testosterone?

No. Controlled substances are outside the MedRefillCare refill pathway. Transfer and prescribing rules for controlled medications are stricter; ask your Texas pharmacist and plan to establish care with a Texas prescriber who manages that medication.

Is Med Refill Care the same as MedRefillCare?

Yes. MedRefillCare (sometimes written Med Refill Care) is the medication-refill service of Americare Telehealth.
