ED medicine names: brands and generics
| Generic medicine | Associated brand names | Our current refill pathway |
|---|---|---|
| Sildenafil | Viagra | Established medicine and dose considered after safety review |
| Tadalafil | Cialis | Established medicine and dose considered after safety review |
| Vardenafil | Levitra, Staxyn | Educational reference; not offered through this pathway |
| Avanafil | Stendra | Educational reference; not offered through this pathway |
Brand availability varies. Sildenafil and tadalafil also appear in products for other medical conditions; the exact product, indication and dose matter. Do not substitute products or change doses on your own.
Cialis or Viagra: which one?
They are different medicines. Tadalafil has a longer duration of action and may be prescribed daily or as needed; sildenafil is commonly prescribed as needed. Suitability depends on your health and other medicines. This pathway continues your established medicine and dose; it does not offer new starts, dose changes, compounded troches, chewable products or testosterone.
What your clinician needs to review
Have your prescription label, current dose, response to treatment, side effects, recent blood pressure, medical history and complete medication list ready. Discuss any heart disease, recent cardiovascular event, kidney or liver condition, or symptoms with exercise or sex.
New patients are contacted by phone or video before a prescription is issued. Additional information, testing or an in-person examination may be needed. This is not anonymous or automatic prescribing.
Use the existing ED self-check and secure review instructions. The self-check is educational and does not establish eligibility by itself. Do not send medical details by ordinary text.
Important safety information
Do not take sildenafil or tadalafil with nitrates, including nitroglycerin or isosorbide, recreational nitrites (“poppers”), or riociguat. Dangerous drops in blood pressure can occur. Tell your clinician about alpha blockers, blood pressure medicines and all other drugs or supplements. Do not combine ED medicines unless specifically directed by your treating clinician.
Chest pain, fainting or unusual breathlessness with sex or activity needs medical assessment. For chest pain after an ED medicine, stop sexual activity, call 911, do not take nitroglycerin, and tell emergency staff exactly what you took and when. An erection lasting more than four hours or sudden vision or hearing loss requires immediate medical attention.
ED can be associated with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, medication effects or other conditions. Keep recommended primary care or urology follow-up; a refill review does not replace evaluation of the underlying cause.
Medication continuity, privacy and related concerns
My doctor is unavailable or I ran out while traveling—what now?
Try the regular office’s covering clinician or after-hours line and ask your pharmacy about available options. A clinician may consider a limited bridge refill of an established non-controlled medicine after checking the history and safety information. The duration is individualized; a 30-day supply is not guaranteed. A bottle photo supports verification but is not enough by itself. Keep your regular follow-up. Doctor unavailable · Forgot medication while traveling.
Can you continue GLP-1 medication?
Our separate pathway evaluates continuation of established FDA-approved GLP-1/GIP therapy. Have the exact product, current dose, last dose, weight trend, side effects and relevant glucose or lab results ready. New starts, substantial interruptions and dose increases may need a broader evaluation. We do not offer compounded GLP-1 products or a comprehensive weight-loss program through this pathway. Established GLP-1 continuation.
Do you treat hair loss?
Hair loss can have different causes and may require scalp examination or testing. Ask the team about evaluation and prescribing availability before paying. This ED refill pathway does not automatically include finasteride, oral minoxidil or a hair-loss subscription.
Could anxiety, sleep or another medicine be affecting erections?
Stress, anxiety, depression, sleep problems and some medicines can contribute. Discuss these openly rather than stopping a prescribed medicine on your own. We can review concerns and direct you to appropriate care. Selected established non-controlled anxiety/depression medications have a separate continuation pathway; intensive psychiatric services and controlled medications are not provided. For an immediate safety emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest ER. Established medication continuation · Healthy sleep education.
Can I take this with my other medicine? What if I missed a dose?
Ask the pharmacist or clinician using the exact drug name, strength, schedule and full medication list. The answer varies by medicine. Follow your specific missed-dose instructions; do not improvise extra doses or combine ED products. Report possible adverse effects and seek urgent care for severe symptoms. Prepare your medication list.
What can and cannot be prescribed?
Our ED refill pathway considers established sildenafil or tadalafil at the same dose. Other maintenance refills depend on the separate pathway’s criteria. Antibiotics are not ED treatments and require an appropriate diagnosis. We do not provide controlled substances, testosterone, compounded ED products or automatic prescriptions. New symptoms, dose changes and unverified treatment may need a broader evaluation. Prescribing policy.
